What Problem Does the 1769-ARM Solve?
How do you add or replace a module in a running CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 system without downloading a new hardware definition and stopping the process? The Allen-Bradley 1769-ARM Address Reserve Module answers that question by reserving a slot ahead of time.
This module holds a slot with an inhibited module configuration. When the time comes to add or replace an inhibited module, no hardware configuration change is needed. That means no forced download and no process stop. For plants that cannot afford unplanned downtime, that is a practical, ready-to-ship solution.

How the Address Reserve Module Works
The 1769-ARM creates an I/O configuration and a user program that removes all further configuration to that module. It carries a 1-word input data file, with no output and no configuration data files. Program references for the slot position must not use another module’s parameters.
Once a slot is reserved, you insert the module and deactivate module inhibition to put it into active mode. The module reserves a single slot and has no input or output connections. It is compatible with CompactLogix controllers and MicroLogix 1500 controllers.

Where It Fits in Your Process
Consider a gas compression station running a CompactLogix line. A future analog input card is planned, but the panel is already built. With the 1769-ARM in place, the slot stays reserved. When the card arrives, the technician inserts it and deactivates inhibition. No hardware definition download, no process stop.
In a MicroLogix 1500 retrofit, the same logic applies. Reserve the slot during the initial build, and later upgrades stay simple. This is the kind of practical planning that keeps oil, gas and industrial automation lines running.
Installation and Mounting
The 1769-ARM mounts to its assigned slot using the same mechanical locking mechanism that connects modules to the CompactLogix backplane. It supports DIN rail or panel mounting. Direct panel mounting offers more resistance to shock and vibration than DIN rail mounting.
Install the module with other CompactLogix modules in an adequately sized enclosure to protect it from environmental elements. Enclosure heaters and coolers may be used to control temperature. For shock and vibration, appropriate limiting devices may be installed.
Compatible power supplies include 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4 and 1769-PB4. The power supply distance rating is eight modules.
Reliability and Environmental Ratings
The 1769-ARM handles demanding plant conditions. It has a maximum peak-to-peak operating vibration of 5 g at 10-500 Hz and 2 g relay operation. Panel-mounted operating shock is 30 G, with 20 G for DIN-rail mounting. Non-operating shock is 40 G panel-mounted and 30 G DIN-rail mounted.
Its radiated and conducted emissions are classified to EN 50081-2 Class A. It carries c-UL-us certification for UL Listed Industrial Control Equipment and for Class I, Division 2 Group A, B, C, D Hazardous Locations. CE compliance covers EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4. Other certifications include RCM and EAC.
