ABB 07KT93 Central Processing Unit with integrated high-speed counter for fast industrial automation response.

Product Description

ABB 07KT93 Central Processing Unit Overview

When machine cycles demand precise pulse counting and rapid signal capture, the ABB 07KT93 Central Processing Unit delivers. This CPU from ABB’s proven automation line includes a high-speed counter that runs independently of the user program. That independence means the 07KT93 responds to external signals without waiting for scan cycle completion — a practical advantage for time-critical counting and position tasks.

Key Technical Capabilities

The 07KT93 high-speed counter reaches a maximum counting frequency of 10 kHz. It counts 0 to 1 edges at terminal 02, also designated E 62,00. Fast digital signal input into the user program occurs with a delay of less than 0.02 ms at terminal 02 (E 62,00) and terminal 03 (E 62,01).

Counter Control and Monitoring

You enable or disable counting through internal variable A 63,14 in the user program. Setting A 63,14 = 0 lets internal variable A 63,13 control the function: A 63,13 = 1 enables counting, while A 63,13 = 0 disables it. Setting A 63,14 = 1 instead routes control to terminal 03 (E 62,01), where signal 1 enables counting and signal 0 disables it. A 63,13 has no effect in this mode. The dead time may be 0 to 1.5 ms.

To set the counter, use internal variable A 63,15 = 1 to load the value held in internal word variable AW 06,15. If A 63,15 = 1 persists across several processing cycles, the processor sets the counter at program end each time. During the rest of the cycle, the counter continues counting pulses at terminal 02. Read the counter content through internal variable EW 06,15.

A zero-crossing message fires when counter contents change from -1 to 0. It always appears via internal variable E 63,13, and at terminal 36 (A 62,00) only when A 63,14 = 1. Reaction time may be 0 to 1.5 ms. Note that A 63,14 = 1 disables direct control of output A 62,00 from the user program. Setting the counter cancels the zero-crossing message.

Comparison: 07KT93 vs. Standard PLC Counter Modules

Feature ABB 07KT93 Integrated Counter Typical Standard Counter Module
Counting frequency 10 kHz max Often lower
Signal input delay < 0.02 ms Usually higher
Program independence Yes, runs independently Varies
Zero-crossing message Via E 63,13 and A 62,00 Not always available

Practical Applications

In packaging lines, the 07KT93 counts product pulses at 10 kHz while the main program handles logic — no missed edges. In material handling, the sub-0.02 ms input delay captures fast sensor transitions for accurate position tracking. For OEMs replacing older CPU boards, the integrated counter removes the need for a separate module, saving panel space and wiring time.

Integration and Selection Notes

Confirm your backplane and terminal wiring match the 07KT93 designation before ordering. The internal variable addressing (A 63,14, A 63,15, EW 06,15) must align with your existing program structure. Additional Information

ABB 07 KT 93 Central Processing Unit 07KT93

The high-speed counter used in the basic unit 07 KT 93
works independently of the user program and is therefore
able to response quickly to external signals.
Features
· The counting frequency is 10 kHz max. The counter
counts the 0->1 edges at terminal 02 (also designated
as E 62,00).

Enabling/disabling of the counting procedure using the
internal variable A 63,14 in the user program:
A63,14 = O
The internal variable A 63,13 = 1 enables the counting procedure, whereas A 63,13 = 0 disables it.
A63,14 = 1
Signal 1 at terminal 03 (also designated as E 62,01)
enables the counting procedure, whereas signal 0
disables it. A 63,13 is without effect. Note: The dead
time may be 0...1.5 ms.
· Setting the counter in the user program:
to the value contained in the internal word variable
AW 06,15
using the internal variable A 63,15 = 1.
Note: If the internal variable A 63,15 = 1 is present
during several processing cycles, the processor sets
the counter at the program end in each case. During
the remaining time of the processing cycle, the counter
counts pulses at terminal 02.
· The counter content can be read via the internal variable EW 06,15.
· Zero-crossing message (signal changes from 0 to 1
when the counter contents changes from -1 to 0):
always via the internal variable E 63,13,
at the terminal 36 (also designated as A 62,00) only,
if the internal variable A 63,14 = 1 is set. Note: The
reaction time may be 0...1.5 ms. The direct control
of the output A 62,00 from the user program is disabled by A 63,14 = 1.
The zero-crossing message is cancelled when the
counter is set.
· Fast input of digital signals into the user program with
a delay of < 0.02 ms: Terminal 02 (also designated as E 62,00): Internal variable E 63,14 Terminal 03 (also designated as E 62,01): Internal variable E 63,15
