Product Overview
When a controller drops out on a live process line, every hour of downtime costs money. The ABB 07 KT 98 (order number GJR5 2531 00 R) is the Advant Controller 31 basic unit built to keep decentralized automation running. It handles 24 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs and 8 configurable digital inputs/outputs, all electrically isolated in groups. Oil AutoTech keeps this unit ready-to-ship so your line gets back online without a long wait.

Key Parameters That Matter
The 07 KT 98 packs serious I/O density into one basic unit. Eight analog inputs sit in a single group and each channel configures individually to 0…10 V, 0…5 V, ±10 V, ±5 V, 0…20 mA, 4…20 mA, Pt100 (2-wire or 3-wire) or differential input. Those same analog inputs also work as digital inputs when your application needs it. Four analog outputs configure individually to ±10 V, 0…20 mA or 4…20 mA.
Performance is where this unit earns its place. Cycle time runs at 0.07 ms for 1 kB of program, split roughly 65% bits and 35% words. Two fast counters handle frequencies up to 50 kHz across seven operating modes. Memory covers 1 MB of user program and 1 MB of user data, plus 256 kB RETAIN and 128 kB Flash EPROM. A SmartMedia Card handles operating system, program and data storage.
Where the 07 KT 98 Fits
This basic unit works three ways: as bus master in the decentralized Advant Controller 31 system, as a slave remote processor, or as a stand-alone unit. That flexibility suits oil and gas skids, water treatment panels and process lines where I/O sits far from the main cabinet.
The CS31 system bus interface expands the system as your plant grows. Maximum capacity reaches 1040 DI/DO, 232 AI and 228 AO, so the same basic unit scales from a small stand-alone job to a full decentralized network. For retrofit projects, this means you can replace a failed unit without redesigning the whole architecture.

Setup and Integration Notes
Power the unit from 24 V DC. Mount it by screws or snap it onto a DIN rail. Detachable screw-type terminal blocks speed up field wiring and let you swap the unit without re-terminating every conductor.
Two serial interfaces, COM1 and COM2, work as MODBUS interfaces, for programming and test functions, or as freely programmable interfaces. Parallel interfaces connect couplers 07 KP 90 (RCOM), 07 KP 93 (2 x MODBUS) and 07 MK 92. Programming runs on the 907 AC 1131 system: version 4.1 or later for the ARCNET interface, version 4.2.1 or later for the PROFIBUS-DP interface. Wiring into these networks may require an external gateway or connection module, so confirm cables and gateways with your supplier before ordering.
A RUN/STOP switch starts and aborts program execution. The integrated real-time clock and lithium battery 07 LE 90 back up time, date and RETAIN data. Online program modification lets you change the user program without interrupting operation.
Maintenance and Reliability
Built-in diagnostics cover the basic unit itself plus the CS31 system bus and connected modules, so faults surface early. LED displays show signal conditions, operating statuses and error messages at a glance. Check the lithium battery 07 LE 90 periodically and inspect terminal blocks for tightness during routine shutdowns. Follow the manufacturer’s safety manual for all service work.
