Allen-Bradley 1769-ARM Address Reserve Module reserves a CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 slot, so future module swaps need no hardware reconfiguration.

Product Description

What Problem Does the 1769-ARM Solve?

How do you add or replace a module in a running CompactLogix or MicroLogix 1500 system without downloading a new hardware definition and stopping the process? The Allen-Bradley 1769-ARM Address Reserve Module answers that question by reserving a slot ahead of time.

This module holds a slot with an inhibited module configuration. When the time comes to add or replace an inhibited module, no hardware configuration change is needed. That means no forced download and no process stop. For plants that cannot afford unplanned downtime, that is a practical, ready-to-ship solution.

How the Address Reserve Module Works

The 1769-ARM creates an I/O configuration and a user program that removes all further configuration to that module. It carries a 1-word input data file, with no output and no configuration data files. Program references for the slot position must not use another module’s parameters.

Once a slot is reserved, you insert the module and deactivate module inhibition to put it into active mode. The module reserves a single slot and has no input or output connections. It is compatible with CompactLogix controllers and MicroLogix 1500 controllers.

Where It Fits in Your Process

Consider a gas compression station running a CompactLogix line. A future analog input card is planned, but the panel is already built. With the 1769-ARM in place, the slot stays reserved. When the card arrives, the technician inserts it and deactivates inhibition. No hardware definition download, no process stop.

In a MicroLogix 1500 retrofit, the same logic applies. Reserve the slot during the initial build, and later upgrades stay simple. This is the kind of practical planning that keeps oil, gas and industrial automation lines running.

Installation and Mounting

The 1769-ARM mounts to its assigned slot using the same mechanical locking mechanism that connects modules to the CompactLogix backplane. It supports DIN rail or panel mounting. Direct panel mounting offers more resistance to shock and vibration than DIN rail mounting.

Install the module with other CompactLogix modules in an adequately sized enclosure to protect it from environmental elements. Enclosure heaters and coolers may be used to control temperature. For shock and vibration, appropriate limiting devices may be installed.

Compatible power supplies include 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4 and 1769-PB4. The power supply distance rating is eight modules.

Reliability and Environmental Ratings

The 1769-ARM handles demanding plant conditions. It has a maximum peak-to-peak operating vibration of 5 g at 10-500 Hz and 2 g relay operation. Panel-mounted operating shock is 30 G, with 20 G for DIN-rail mounting. Non-operating shock is 40 G panel-mounted and 30 G DIN-rail mounted.

Its radiated and conducted emissions are classified to EN 50081-2 Class A. It carries c-UL-us certification for UL Listed Industrial Control Equipment and for Class I, Division 2 Group A, B, C, D Hazardous Locations. CE compliance covers EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4. Other certifications include RCM and EAC.

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ARM module reserves and replaces module slots. It begins to operate after it creates an I/O configuration and a user program that removes all further configuration to that module. Program references for the slot position that the 1769-ARM module occupies must not use another module’s parameters. The 1769-ARM has a 1-word input data file but no output and no configuration data files.

The 1769-ARM's current draw is 60 mA at 5.1 V. It has a maximum heat dissipation of 0.3W and a power supply distance rating of 8. It weighs approximately 0.62 lb and its approximate dimensions are 118 x 35 x 87 mm. It can become 138 mm high when mounted with tabs. The module can be DIN rail or panel mounted. Its compatible power supplies are 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, 1769-PB4 and the module has an open style enclosure type rating.

The 1769-ARM module has a 32-140 °F operational temperature. Its storage temperature is -40 to 185° F and it has a 5-95% relative humidity. It comes with a maximum peak-to-peak operating vibration of 5g at 10-500 Hz and 2g relay operation. It has a 30G panel-mounted operating shock (20G DIN-rail-mounted) and a 7.5 G panel-mounted operating shock (5G DIN-rail mounted). It also has a 40G panel-mounted (30G DIN-rail-mounted) non-operating shock. The 1769-ARM’s radiated and conducted emissions are classified to EN 50081-2 Class A**.** The Allen-Bradley module with catalog number 1769-ARM is an Address Reserve Module (ARM). This module is compatible for use with CompactLogix controllers as well as MicroLogix 1500 controllers. The ARM module reserves a slot with an inhibited module configuration. This way, future modification such as addition or replacement of inhibited module will not require hardware configuration which lead to downloading of hardware definition that may force the process to stop. Once a slot is reserved, user may insert the module and deactivate module inhibition to put the module to active mode. The 1769-ARM reserves a single module slot. While it has no input and output connections, the 1769-ARM has backplane current draw of 60 mA and Heat dissipation of 0.3 W. The modules Power Supply distance rating is Eight (8) modules and compatible with a variety of CompactLogix power supplies such as 1769-PA2, 1769-PB2, 1769-PA4, 1769-PB4. Similar to other CompactLogix modules, the 1769-ARM is designed for DIN Rail or panel mounting. The 1769-ARM carries certification from c-UL-us specifically for UL Listed Industrial Control Equipment, certified for US and Canada and UL Listed for Class I, Division 2 Group A,B,C,D Hazardous Locations, certified for U.S. and Canada. It is also compliant with CE standards such as EN 61000-6-2; Industrial Immunity and EN 61000-6-4; Industrial Emissions. Other international certifications include RCM or Australian Radiocommunications Act, compliant with AS/NZS CISPR 11; Industrial Enclosure and EAC for Russian Customs Union TR CU 020/2011 EMC Technical Regulation. The 1769-ARM may also be used in MicroLogix systems. Any other user-program references to the slot position that is occupied by the 1769-ARM module must not use the parameters of another module. For versions 20. The 1769-ARM is mounted to the appropriate assigned slot. It has the same mechanical locking mechanism, used to connect the module to the CompactLogix backplane. The modules operation temperature is -2055 C or -4131 F, similar to other 1769 CompactLogix module. Operating shock and vibration are 5 g @ 10500 Hz and 30 g respectively. Install the module, along other CompactLogix modules in an adequately sized and designed enclosure to protect the module for environmental elements. Enclosure heaters and coolers may also be installed to control temperature of the enclosure. For shock and vibration, appropriate shock and vibration limiting devices may be installed. Direct panel mounting offers more resistance to these mechanical disturbances compared to DIN rail mounting. When storing the module, maintain an environment within the storage temperature requirement of -40 C min to 85 C max with relative humidity of 95 %RH, non-condensing. The 1769 Address Reserve Module physical dimensions are 118 x 35 x 87 mm (4.65 x 1.38 x 3.43 in.) Height with mounting tabs 138 mm (5.43 in.).
